Transdisciplinary Trip Report Initiative in Psychedelics
Psychedelic studies have experienced considerable growth in the international scientific community in recent years. Numerous studies, conducted in supervised clinical settings, have led to a better understanding of the nature of psychedelic experiences, particularly through the development of standardized tools such as the Mystical Experience Questionnaire. This work has helped to structure new knowledge about consciousness, combining neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy of mind. However, non-clinical accounts, produced outside institutional and scientific frameworks, remain largely neglected by academic research, particularly in French-speaking and European countries. These accounts, often based on individual and subjective experiences, are nevertheless a valuable source for examining how individuals construct, represent, and share their experiences of altered consciousness.
The TTRIP project was founded in October 2024 by researchers from the University of Nice, South of France (Université Nice Côte d’Azur). This project has received the support and approval of EUR-CREATES and the founding members’ affiliated research centers, CTELA and LIRCES. The group aims to analyze accounts and artistic productions resulting from psychedelic experiences in a naturalistic (i.e., non-clinical) context with scientific rigor and impartiality. A website designed to collect this data (currently in the design phase) has been approved by the UniCA Ethics Committee (No. 2025-113) for its protocol.
The slideshow provides an overview of the issues and scope of this project.
